Drywall water damage – Action Plan
In an event of water leak into the drywall, we recommend to first find the water shut of valve ( main ) and close the same. If possible try to contain the water with buckets or large sealed containers to minimize the spread into other areas. After finding the source of the leak and action on the same, turn off the power if possible.
Would be ideal to open the wet section of the drywall in order to start the drying process, the idea here is to avoid possible mold growth. Using an utility knife / drywall saw or multitool, remove the drywall and the insulation if present, opening access for the air to flow on that area.
Placing one or two fans / heaters will help a lot with the evaporation process. Be careful with electrical overload, heater placement and anything that could cause additional damage or initiate fire. If the equipment available is not in good shape, good placement and with supervision would be ideal to call a professional for this step of the action plan.
